Titanic had set sail on April 10, 1912 from South Hampton towards New York. This ship was marked with all the luxury, serving its first class passengers everything in its top order. The immaculate architecture and elaborate interiors welcomed the titanic passengers to its magnificence. The ship was equipped with all the amenities to serve and facilitate its audience. The luncheon menus were pre-planned and showcased a five-star menu on board. Today we still have the menu card that was circulated for the first-class passengers exuberating its richness.
No-doubt, the supplies on the ship had to be available with freshness of the poultry, fruits and vegetables ensured. The top-class chefs on board prepared great meals that the people enjoyed. The delicacies were not ignored and taken care of to the fullest. The provisions for the journey included eleven thousand pounds of fresh fish and twenty five thousand pounds of poultry. Hams, bacon, sausages, salted and dried fish were also present in bulk to make the delicious course meals. The fruit and vegetable salads too were on the menu which required a thousand pounds of grapes and thirty six thousand apples and oranges each. Among other fruits and vegetables in thousands were lemons, grapefruit, green-peas, tomatoes, beans and many others. Titanic Northern Ireland was well-prepared with the morning breakfast menus to serve cereals and fresh breads, jams, jellies and eggs. Wine, liquor and ale was there to the desire marking huge barrels and not to forget the cigars that were provided eight thousand in number. All this was served in the finest of 57,600 pieces of crockery, 29,000 pieces of glass-ware and 44,000 pieces of cutlery. A ship with more than two thousand passengers was prepared to provide a service of excellence to its passengers.
The ill-fated ship having served smoked sardines, veal and ham pie, fillets of Brill, chicken a la Maryland, jacked potatoes, custard puddings and cheese are just some of the items served from a long list of culinary on board. The people had enjoyed their meal to the fullest and were having a merry time until the ship hit the iceberg to the nightmares of the asleep. The titanic survivors couldn’t believe what they just saw, the luxury and merry making all lost in the deep ocean within a matter of two hours, all left a bad taste to the incredible journey.
